Family Update

Principal’s Post

Dear Families,

And just like that, it’s May!  Students received progress reports today.  Next week, our alphabet calendar begins as we sprint to summer!  Please click here to read the calendar in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.  Every day of school is an important opportunity for students to learn and connect to peers and their teachers and staff at Walnut Square.  Thank you so much for making attendance a priority!  April’s attendance rate is 92.32%.  We ended the month strong!

Haverhill Public Schools is having an attendance “Spring Challenge.”  This May to encourage everyone to end the year strong, all K-8 schools will challenge students to attend daily on time each day. Those students who make it all 22 days will receive a special “Spring Challenge” reward.  Please continue to encourage your child to attend school on time every day unless medically excused, and please reach out if we can support you in any way.  To read the Attendance Matters Letter, please click below.

I have an exciting announcement to make!  We have Superstars who participated and placed in Northern Essex Community College’s 24th Annual Peace Poetry Contest.  Congratulations to the follow students:

Students who received Honorable Mentions will have their poems published in the 2023 Chapbook and are invited to attend the reading to receive their certificate, their copy of the Chapbook with their poem included, and to be recognized.  This is so exciting, and I would like to thank Ms. Davy, Mrs. Hughes, Mrs. O’Leary, and Mrs. Sanchez for taking the extra time to enter the students into the contest.

I  hope you all enjoy the weekend!

Sincerely,
