Dear Families,
Progress reports are being sent home with your child today. Congratulations to your child on completing the Reading and Math Diagnostic! It was wonderful to see them trying their best and reflecting on their results with their teacher. As I’ve mentioned before, the Diagnostic is an important tool we use to understand your child better and where we can offer the best support.
You can also talk to your child about the work they just completed and learn more about their progress. Here are some questions you can use to spark a discussion:
- What was it like to take the Diagnostic? What did you do during the test to make sure you did your best?
- Tell me about some of the reflections you’ve made from your data. What are you proud of? What do you need to work on?
- What goals did you set based on this Diagnostic?
- How can I help support your goals?
The iReady Diagnostic also provides us with valuable information about your child’s reading level, including a Lexile score. A Lexile score is a scientific measure of reading ability and text difficulty, represented by a number followed by an “L” (e.g., 950L). The higher the Lexile score, the more challenging the text.
You can use your child’s Lexile score to help them find books that are just right for their reading level! Many books and online resources display Lexile measures, allowing you to select texts that will challenge your child appropriately without being too frustrating. This helps foster a love of reading and supports continued growth. You can learn more about Lexile scores and search for books at specific Lexile levels on websites like https://hub.lexile.com/for-parents/.
