Dear Families,
May is an incredibly busy month…is that an understatement or what?! Our Alphabet calendar is off to a great start, we finished the grade 3 MCAS assessment, and now we are working towards completing iReady assessments while celebrating and showcasing the growth and progress of our Superstars. The district wide art show was yesterday, and Ms. Morra did an amazing job curating and highlighting the art talents of our Superstars! Our Spring concert is next week, and Mr. Tsioropolous is getting our Superstars ready to perform. More information about the Spring Concert can be found by clicking here. Mr. DeAngelo is is preparing for field day, and the rest of our staff and PTO are ready to support! During this busy time of year, I am continuously thankful for our school community who show up for students and each other every day. Our Superstars “shine bright” because of your hard work and collaboration!
As we near the end of the school year, it is time to once again complete the Family Feedback survey. Please click here to complete the brief, ten question survey. Your feedback is very important and shared with Site Council, staff, and PTO. This input helps us improve Walnut Square School by celebrating our successes, identifying educational needs, and guiding decisions for next year’s School Improvement Plan. Your participation is crucial, and we truly appreciate your insights! Currently, we have 37 responses- let’s keep it going!
Our attendance for May continues to be strong! Thank you for your commitment to building the habit of daily school attendance!
Even though May is busy, reading every night with your child is very important. It helps improve their vocabulary, comprehension skills, and overall academic performance. Additionally, reading fosters a love of literature and encourages critical thinking. To support this essential habit, I invite all Superstars to complete the Superstar Book Review. By filling out this log, you will contribute to a wonderful resource for our school community that will inspire others to read! Please use the following link to complete the form after reading each book: https://forms.gle/iDTbdMb6mkwBkmAu6. Thank you for participating and promoting the love of reading!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Jen Rubera
Principal

Shine Bright Reader Tips from Ms. Dullea
As you are reading with your child at home, have them look to notice if the author used any sensory or feeling words in the story. Ask your second grader to tell you about the song they listened to and the discussion they had about how the repeated language in the song conveys meaning. Do you notice this in any of your shared favorite songs?
