Family Update

Quote of the Week:

“We must all face the choice between what is right and what is easy.”

-Albus Dumbledore

Dear Families,

It has been a busy week of learning and fun at Walnut Square!  On Wednesday evening, the PTO hosted a spaghetti dinner fundraiser at the American Legion.  Not only was the food delicious, but the PTO raised $330 for our school!  A huge shoutout to Morry and Alicia Korinow, Evelyne Cascio, and Heather Silva for organizing and coordinating this awesome event!  Thank you to all families and PTO members who were able to attend and help with the cleanup at the event!  It was such a great night for the Walnut Square Community.

September is Attendance Awareness Month!  To celebrate Attendance, the Attendance Awareness Breakfast Contest is on!   The homeroom with the best attendance for the month of September will be honored with breakfast at school to thank them for making getting to school a priority in their home. There will also be special guests in attendance!  Daily attendance routines can reduce stress, increase your child’s self-confidence, and lay a foundation for good attendance in later grades.  Participation in school helps your child connect with other children and adults and get excited about learning.  Children learn best from hand-on activities and through meaningful interactions with their teachers and other students.  Give your child one of the best gifts possible- the gift of daily school attendance!  We have one more day to go- Monday, September 30th.  Let’s finish the month of September strong!  Please see the attendance rates for our school this week in the graphic below.

Our iReady Challenge is in full swing, and students are working hard in each classroom to earn stars for the tree at the entrance of the school!  Congratulations to the following classes who met their goals this week:  Mrs. Hughes, Mrs. O’Leary, Ms. Oland, Mrs. Ezepek, and Ms. Davy.   100% of the students in Mrs. O’Leary’s and Mrs. Hughes’s classes passed two lessons this week in both Reading and Math!

This weekend, there is a wonderful community event happening in Haverhill- the Haverhill Art Walk!  It’s on Saturday, 9/28, from 2-7pm.  You can click on the link for more information:   https://www.creativehaverhill.org/haverhill-art-walk.

As with all family updates, this will be posted on our school website,https://walnutsquare.haverhill-ps.org/ and sent to you via Parent Square and Remind.  In addition to the Walnut Square School website, you can also “like” our Facebook page, Walnut Square Elementary School, follow us on Instragram, @walnutsquaresuperstars, and/or follow my channel on YouTube, @jenrubera, to get updates and see all of the fun and learning taking place at Walnut Square!   Please contact me if you have any questions.  Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Jen Rubera

Principal

Rubera’s Reading Recommendation:  The Frindle Files by Andrew Clements

I have been an educator for 25 years, and one of my favorite books to read with students is Frindle by Andrew Clements.  Now, almost 30 years later after Frindle was released, there is a new book- The Frindle Files!  This is a standalone book- you don’t need to read Frindle to enjoy this book, but I strongly recommend that you do!  I recommend the two books for our 3rd grade Superstars.  Let me know what you think!
