Family Update

Dear Families,

I am so excited that Walnut Square has a weekly newscast!  Monday was the release of the first broadcast.  Please click here to watch it.  Our next broadcast will be released on Monday, April 10th.

I hope you enjoy the long weekend!  When we return to school on Monday, April 10th, we will be celebrating Autism Acceptance Spirit Week!  Here are the dates and themes:

  • Monday, April 10th:  Sensory Friendly Monday- wear comfortable clothes and/or sunglasses

  • Tuesday, April 11th:  TEAM Tuesday- Together Everyone Accomplishes More– Wear your favorite sports team or sports shirt.

  • Wednesday, April 12th:  Hats off to Autism Wear a hat to show your support and acceptance of autistic individuals!

  • Thursday, April 13th:  Dress up to show something you love!  For example, if you love turtles, you can wear a turtle t-shirt or hat!

  • Friday, April 14th:  Dress in Blue and White or your Walnut Square Shirt to show your spirit for Walnut Square!

Our next community event is on Saturday, April 22nd for Haverhill’s annual City Wide Clean Up day!  This year’s theme is, “Invest in our planet, start in Haverhill!”  Walnut Square is so excited to be teaming up with Haverhill Conservation Commissioners and will help to clean the area around Lake Pentucket.

Walnut Square Superstars continue to use iReady in their daily Reading and Math  lessons.   I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the progress our students are making in i-Ready Personalized Instruction! This week, many students completed 30 or more minutes of Lesson Time-on-Task in either Reading or Mathematics!  This is great progress toward our weekly goal of 30–49 minutes of Lesson Time-on-Task.  Congratulations! Click here to see our iReady Rockstars!   I would also like to congratulate students for working so hard on ST Math- the past two weeks have been record breaking in completing minutes and puzzles!

Kindergarten registration has opened!  Please click here to learn more and to register your child!  HPS Registration is also hosting Kindergarten information nights if you’re interested in learning more!

Our PTO has been working hard to fundraise and support enrichment opportunities at Walnut Square!   You can view information here:  https://walnutsquare.haverhill-ps.org/pto/

Here are  a few PTO updates:

  • We had a meeting on Wednesday, April 5th from 5:00-6:00 pm.  The link to the meeting minutes is on the PTO website.  Please note that May 3rd meeting will be the meeting when we have elections for the Executive board.

  • Music Bingo night at the Haverhill Elks has been postponed until Saturday, April 29th.  This fundraising event is for adults only. Thanks to the generous donation of Ryan Ricci and Adam Desmarais (Haverhill High alumni), 100% of the proceeds will benefit Walnut Square!  If you’d like to reserve a table or get tickets, please contact Jen Rubera.

We had a Site Council meeting on Wednesday evening.  The link to read the agenda and minutes is here:  https://walnutsquare.haverhill-ps.org/school-improvement-plan/

As with all family updates, this will be posted on our school website, https://walnutsquare.I-ps.org/ and sent to you via School Messenger and Remind.  In addition to the Walnut Square School website, you can also “like” our Facebook page, Walnut Square Elementary School, and follow us on Instragram @walnutsquaresuperstars to get updates and see all of the fun and learning taking place at Walnut Square!   Please contact me if you have any questions. Thank you for your continued partnership in your student’s learning.

Sincerely,

Jen Rubera
