Family Update

Dear Families,

National Reading Month continues, and today we had guest readers come to Walnut Square to read to our Kindergarten student!  Thank you to Mayor Fiorentini, Assistant Special Education Director Forreste deGroot, and Principal James Brennan for visiting us today and reading a story!  Please check our Instagram and Facebook pages for pictures!

Next week, we will be conducting an ALICE drill at Walnut Square.  For more information about ALICE drills please click on one of the links below to read the letter that was sent to families in the fall.

Kindergarten registration has opened!  Please click here to learn more and to register your child!  HPS Registration is also hosting Kindergarten information nights if you’re interested in learning more!

Mark your calendar!  Join us for an evening hike around the Lake Pentucket trail while enjoying the beautiful sunset on Tuesday, March 28th from 6:30-7:30 pm.  This is a great opportunity for Walnut Square families, Pentucket Lake families, and JG Whittier families to meet.  After the hike, families will receive information and tips to experience nature as a family.  This event will be held rain or shine, so proper dress and footwear (rain boots) are highly recommended!  The trail is 1.1 miles long, and carriages and bikes are not recommended as it is a hiking trail.  Please leave pets at home.

You can sign up online here:

Walnut Square Superstars continue to use iReady in their daily Reading and Math  lessons.   I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the progress our students are making in i-Ready Personalized Instruction! This week, many students completed 30 or more minutes of Lesson Time-on-Task in either Reading or Mathematics!  This is great progress toward our weekly goal of 30–49 minutes of Lesson Time-on-Task.  Congratulations! Click here to see our iReady Rockstars!

Our PTO has been working hard to fundraise and support enrichment opportunities at Walnut Square!   There was a meeting on Wednesday.  Please click here to read the meeting minutes.   Here are just a few updates:

  • The PTO is also collecting donations for a “Game Night” basket to support the Health and Wellness Department.  If you’re interested in donating a game, please bring it to school.
  • Our next virtual meeting will be Wednesday, April 1st from 5:00-6:00 pm.  The link to the meeting will be on the agenda on the PTO website.
  • Music Bingo night at the Haverhill Elks has been postponed until Saturday, April 29th.  This fundraising event is for adults only. Thanks to the generous donation of Ryan Ricci and Adam Desmarais (Haverhill High alumni), 100% of the proceeds will benefit Walnut Square!  If you’d like to reserve a table or get tickets, please contact Jen Rubera.

As with all family updates, this will be posted on our school website, and sent to you via School Messenger and Remind.  In addition to the Walnut Square School website, you can also “like” our Facebook page, Walnut Square Elementary School, and follow us on Instragram @walnutsquaresuperstars to get updates and see all of the fun and learning taking place at Walnut Square!   Please contact me if you have any questions. Thank you for your continued partnership in your student’s learning.
