Family Update

“I raise up my voice—not so I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard. We cannot succeed when half of us are held back.” –Malala Yousafzai

Dear Families,

It was so much fun celebrating Read Across America with everyone last week!  Our Superstars are working hard to learn and grow, and their skills improve daily.

This week, our nurses begin health screenings for students.  The screenings include hearing and vision as well as height and weight.  More information about this can be found by clicking here.

On Friday, Walnut Square Superstars participated in a school wide Read-A-Thon.  This Read-A-Thon is designed to reinforce good reading habits while raising funds to help with in school programs, classroom needs, and end of the year activities.  We encourage students to collect pledges from relatives and neighbors.  Sponsors may pledge an amount for each book read (example $1.00 per book) or a flat rate for the event (example $5.00)  During the Read-A-Thon, students will  read to themselves, with a buddy, and listen to reading.  We ask that all pledge sheets and money be returned to school by Friday, March 11, 2022.

Haverhill Public Schools has partnered with McLean Hospital to provide two virtual parent workshops this year.  The second of these events will occur on Friday March 11th from 12-1:30pm.  The event will also be translated in Spanish and presented virtually on Friday March 25th from 12-1:30pm.  This workshop is called Raising a Resilient Child and will provide families with ready-to-use strategies to help their children approach difficult challenges in life.  If you are unable to attend, the workshops will be recorded and made available at a later date.  More information can be found by clicking on the links:  English and  Espanol

I have been very busy organizing and cleaning the library.   Last year we were able to purchase some amazing new books.  I wanted to let everyone know we have a selection of Social Emotional books available for checkout.  If anyone would like to hold a book for their child, please send me an email and I will make sure your child receives the book during their checkout day.  Amanda.Murray@haverill-ps.org
