Family Update

Dear Families,

Welcome back to school!   I hope you all had a wonderful break last week.  As we return back from break, I wanted to share the Walnut Square Family Guide again.  Please review the guide about our routines and procedures here at Walnut Square.  Thank you for your help with this!

We celebrated Read Across America today!  Students participated in a Read-a-thon, and notices were sent home about the number of books they read or were read aloud to them.  Families may participate in the PTO fundraiser, with all money due Friday, March 10th.

To celebrate Read Across America, the PTO purchased a book for every student!  They also purchased reading stuffed animals and Cricut materials for Walnut Square Library bags.  Each student will receive a library bag on their library day with a special reading stuffie.  We hope the library bags and their reading stuffies encourage students to check out books, read the books (or have them read to by a grown up), and return the books.  A special thank you to Mrs. Hughes and Ms. Luttig for designing and decorating the library bags!

Here are the days the classrooms visit the library:

  • Monday:  Ms. Luttig
  • Tuesday:  Ms. Caruso and Mrs. Hughes
  • Wednesday:  Mrs. Sanchez
  • Thursday:  Mrs. O’Leary and Ms. Bird
  • Friday:  Mr. Bailey and Mrs. Abreu

Mark your calendar!  Join us for an evening hike around the Lake Pentucket trail while enjoying the beautiful sunset on Tuesday, March 28th from 6:30-7:30 pm.  This is a great opportunity for Walnut Square Families and Pentucket Families to meet.  After the hike, families will receive information and tips to experience nature as a family.  This event will be held rain or shine, so proper dress and footwear are highly recommended!  The trail is 1.1 miles long, and carriages and bikes are not recommended as it is a hiking trail.  Please leave pets at home. Notices will be sent home next week, or you can sign up online here:  https://forms.gle/WxqmEeWG8VWwhBTs8.

Walnut Square Superstars continue to use iReady in their daily Reading and Math  lessons.   I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the progress our students are making in i-Ready Personalized Instruction! This week, many students completed 30 or more minutes of Lesson Time-on-Task in either Reading or Mathematics!  This is great progress toward our weekly goal of 30–49 minutes of Lesson Time-on-Task.  Congratulations! Click here to see our iReady Rockstars!

Our Site Council met on Wednesday.  Please click here to read the meeting minutes.

Our PTO has been working hard to fundraise and support enrichment opportunities at Walnut Square!   There was a meeting on Wednesday.  Please click here to read the meeting minutes.   Here are just a few updates:

  • Our next virtual meeting will be Wednesday, April 1st from 5:00-6:00 pm.  The link to the meeting will be on the agenda on the PTO website.
  • If You Give a Teacher a Pizza Raffle was a great success!  Please check the Walnut Square Facebook and Instagram pages
  • The Read-a-thon fundraiser was held today!  All fundraiser money is due Friday, March 10th.
  • Music Bingo night at the Haverhill Elks has been postponed until Saturday, April 29th.  This fundraising event is for adults only. Thanks to the generous donation of Ryan Ricci and Adam Desmarais (Haverhill High alumni), 100% of the proceeds will benefit Walnut Square!  If you’d like to reserve a table or get tickets, please contact Jen Rubera.

Kindergarten registration has opened!  Please click here to learn more and to register your child!

As with all family updates, this will be posted on our school website, https://walnutsquare.I-ps.org/ and sent to you via School Messenger and Remind.  In addition to the Walnut Square School website, you can also “like” our Facebook page, Walnut Square Elementary School, and follow us on Instragram @walnutsquaresuperstars to get updates and see all of the fun and learning taking place at Walnut Square!   Please contact me if you have any questions. Thank you for your continued partnership in your student’s learning.

Sincerely,

Jen Rubera
