Family Update

Dear Families,

Happy Veterans Day!  I would like to thank all of our veterans for your service to our country and for those that continue to serve our community.  Our Superstars have been learning about Veterans Day in class.

Walnut Square Superstars have also been using iReady in their daily lessons.  i-Ready is an online program that will help us determine your child’s strengths and areas for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows us to meet your child where they are and provides us with data to inform instruction.  During September, all Walnut Square Superstars completed the diagnostic in both Reading and Mathematics.  Based on the diagnostic, a pathway of personalized instruction was created to provide students with lessons based on their individual strengths and areas for growth. These lessons are interactive and provide strategic supports to keep your child engaged as they learn.

I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the progress our students are making in i-Ready Personalized Instruction! Last week, the following students completed 30 or more minutes of Lesson Time-on-Task in either Reading or Mathematics!  This is great progress toward our weekly goal of 30–49 minutes of Lesson Time-on-Task.  Congratulations! Click here to view the slides.

To support your child’s learning with online lessons, you can discuss your child’s progress on their i-Ready lessons and celebrate your child’s learning and growth.  Thank you for your continued support and for being a partner in your child’s learning! I look forward to sharing i-Ready information with you throughout the year. If you have any questions about i-Ready, please do not hesitate to contact me or the school. You can also learn more about i-Ready by visiting i-ReadyCentral.com/FamilyCenter

Next week, Walnut Square will have an ALICE safety drill.  Please click on the link below to read more about ALICE drills.

O’Connor Studios will be returning on Wednesday, November 16th for students who were absent on portrait day, or for those who need their portrait retaken.

  • If you’d like to order portraits, please use your original order form, or call the school and we will send home a new form.
  • If you are having your child’s portrait retaken, return your original package to the photographer on retake day.  No order form is necessary.  Please note that retakes are only offered for students who paid for a portrait package, new to our school, or absent on portrait day.

At Walnut Square, we have a closet with extra clothes for students.  We are in need of the following items: packages of new underwear size 4-8, socks, and unisex clothing, sized 4-8.  If you would like to donate any of the items, please bring them to school.

As with all family updates, this will be posted on our school website, https://walnutsquare.I-ps.org/ and sent to you via School Messenger and Remind.  In addition to the Walnut Square School website, you can also “like” our Facebook page, Walnut Square Elementary School, and follow us on Instragram @walnutsquaresuperstars to get updates and see all of the fun and learning taking place at Walnut Square!   Please contact me if you have any questions.  Thank you!

Sincerely,

Jen Rubera

Principal
