    Vacation Break Safety

Superintendent Marotta send this communication out last week. I have copied it here in case you did not receive it. “As we head into the February break, I wanted to wish you a relaxing vacation week and to remind you to keep up your guard against the spread of COVID. While there are still travel restrictions and quarantine expectations in place, it is just as important to be safe close to home. Where ever you are:

    • Wear a mask in public  when not eating or drinking
    • Wash your hands often with soap and water
    • Use hand sanitizer when soap and water are not available
    • Stay at least six feet apart from others
    • Consider if those around you may be at higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19, such as older adults or those with certain medical conditions, and take extra precautions
    • If gathering indoors, improve ventilation by opening windows and doors

Please remember that If you do travel overnight outside of Massachusetts, effective August 1, 2020, all visitors and returning residents entering Massachusetts are require to do the following:

    1. Complete the Massachusetts Travel Form https://www.mass.gov/forms/massachusetts-travel-form .
    2. Quarantine for 10 days (HPS 14 days) OR produce a negative COVID-19 test result that has been administered up to 72 hours prior to your return to Massachusetts

For the safety of our school community, we implore you to adhere to this guidance. If your student is unable or unwilling to test, please let your school know that your child will be moving to fully remote learning for the two weeks following the return from your vacation.

    Pool Testing Week of 2/8/21-2/12/21

The pool tests from Thursday 2/11/21 have been returned. I am pleased to report that Walnut Square pools were negative! Pool testing will resume when school reopens the week of 2/22-2/26.

    Winter Attendance Contest Winners

The Winter Attendance Contest began when we returned to school remotely after the holiday break. All students who qualified for attending school every day between winter break and today had their names submitted for a chance to win a $25.00 gift card. Two randomly picked winners of the Winter Attendance Contest at WSQ  Winners received $25.00 gift cards. Both Superstar winners were in grade 1. Congratulations to both Kali and Emma!

Blast off with Reading A to Z
The Walnut Square Blast off to Reading Contest continues through our vacation. Students still have almost two weeks to earn prizes in this reading
challenge. The contest doesn’t end until February 26, 2021 so stay calm and keep on reading! Please see the attached list of challenge winners so far.

    Grade K Update

We hope everyone enjoys the break this week! We encourage you to use iReady, ST Math and Learning A-Z during our time off! Be sure to check out the sight word packets that were sent home for some fun ways to practice our sight words.  We hope you enjoy this time with your family and that you get to have fun in the snow! We can’t wait to see everyone on February 22!

    Grade1 Update

Your children have been working so very hard remotely and in person and we hope they have a great vacation week.  It is supposed to be a bit snowy, so what is better than cuddling up with a good book (or Chromebook) to read a story.  We are encouraging our students to continue to listen to and read over the break.  We would love to hear recorded books on Learning A-Z.  Speaking of snow, if you build a snowman or make a snow angel, snap a picture and send it to us!  We will put it on our Walnut Square Facebook Page.  Have fun and be safe.

    Grade 2 Update

Wishing everyone a restful vacation! Remember to read over vacation. The Haverhill Public Library is open but appointments must be made. Check out the Haverhill Public Library website. Opportunities to reserve books and curb pick up. Most of all, enjoy  a device free week!

Please take this vacation week to enjoy and relax!
