Weekly Update- February 7, 2021
Trimester 2 Progress Reports
Haverhill Public Schools K-8 have adjusted the iReady mid -year benchmark testing period. Due to this change, we have pushed our K-8 progress reports back one week district wide. Trimester 2 Progress Reports will be available on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 for cohort A/C and Thursday, February 11, 2021 for cohort B/C. Cohort D (RLA) will receive their progress report electronically on February 11th. Please see the attached letter that gives more information on the iReady progress report.
Grade K Update
This week in Letterland, students will be learning more about Walter Walrus, Fix it Max and Yellow Yo-Yo Man. We will be reviewing our list of 27 sight words. Don’t forget to practice reading the sight word list posted in Google Classroom! In Writing, we will continue to write personal narratives while keeping the rules of a sentence in mind. In Math, we will continue to explore addition and subtraction. Finally, in Social Studies, we will explore the President’s job in honor of Presidents Day.

Grade 1 Update
In First Grade we will be focusing on Valentine’s Day and Friendship! We will be learning about biographies and will write about someone we love. In Letterland, we will be reviewing Units 1-15 focusing on short vowels. During our math block we start Topic 8 and will be learning about place value-tens and ones. Our focus in reading will be Valentine’s Day, Friendship and Love. We hope you all have an amazing Valentine’s Day and vacation week.
Grade 2 Update
This will be another busy week for your children. We will continue our discussion about Important Americans. The “Important Americans” we will be learning about this week are George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Ruby Bridges. In Social Studies we will also discuss Presidents’ Day which is celebrated over February vacation. Your children will learn about Ruby Bridges and write an informational paragraph about how she became an “Important American”. as a very young child. For Science, the children will begin to explore the states of matter. Valentine’s Day is February 14th. Children will be writing about what brings joy and love to their lives for Valentine’s Day with a cute project to go with it. Wishing everyone a wonderful week off February 14-20th!
