    Welcome Back Cohort C

Cohort C students will attend school this week. Cohorts A (Mon/Tues) and B (Thurs/Fri) students will be remote this week. They are tentatively scheduled to return to in person learning next week, December 14th, however, there is a school committee meeting Thursday, December 10th where that will be discussed.

    Online Learning Components are Required

Each week our teachers, whether remote or hybrid are assigning written work, daily meets and online activities. These online activities are required along with the written work and daily meets.  The programs your child should be accessing every week are; ST Math, Learning A-Z, IReady Reading and IReading Math. All four of these programs have assessments that make the programs individually suited for each child’s reading and math level. All the programs have district time requirements that are there to optimize student achievement as well as allow us to monitor your child’s progress. Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions about the amount of required time on each of these programs.

    School Pictures

Reminder, school pictures are scheduled for the week of December 14th. Cohort A is scheduled for Dec. 15th, Cohort B is scheduled for December 17th and Cohort D, Remote Learning Academy (RLA) students are scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 16th. RLA students need to have an appointment on that day. Several parents have already scheduled a time, however, not all have so it is important for parents of RLA students to contact the school to schedule a specific time. Please call the school at 978-374-3471 to schedule a time for pictures. Here is the link and the access code to order on line.

    Grade K Update

This week in Kindergarten, students will be learning more about Oscar Orange, Mr. O, and Peter Puppy. We will continue to blend and segment the sounds in words and practice writing sentences. Weekly sight words to focus on this week are ‘we’ & ‘and’. Students will continue to review patterns and begin adding two numbers together in Math. In Social Studies, students will discover the similarities and differences of holidays around the world. Please continue to check the daily slideshow that the Kindergarten teachers post on Google Classroom to find all schedules, Meet links, and important assignments throughout the week.

    Grade 1 Update

The students have been doing a fabulous job making it to all four of our remote learning meetings daily.  Please remember to also check your child’s Google Classroom and complete the assignments there as well.  This week we will be completing Topic 4 in enVisions as well as working on iReady and ST Math.  In writing we will be writing about two great stories: The Sandwich Swap as well as The Gingerbread Man.  We will continue creating our own stories with a beginning, middle and end.  Letterland Unit 9 will focus on the word family -all.  As the holidays approach, we will learn about traditions around the world and compare them to our own.

    Grade 2 Update

Last week we began our “December Celebration” exploration in Social Studies.  This week we will study “The Legend of the Poinsettia” and learn how children celebrate Christmas in Mexico.  Another exciting activity will be learning how to play Dreidel towards the end of the week.  In Science,  we will be studying reindeers,  completing a reindeer T-Chart (graphic organizer), and writing a reindeer informational paragraph.  The children will also be participating in Reader’s Theater.  The play this week is “Goofy,  the Reindeer.”  One of the assignments in writing this week will be to write “How to Decorate a Christmas Tree” using sequence words.  Finally,  in math we will continue reviewing and introduce subtraction with regrouping (borrowing). Happy Hanukkah to our Jewish friends!

    Music Update

Students in grades 1 and 2 will be exploring song form through a variety of fun, winter-themed kinesthetic activities. We will be reinforcing these concepts with fun cooking themed activities on seesaw. Make sure to attend class! https://sites.google.com/haverhill-ps.org/mssteigersmusicroom/home
