Walnut Square Elementary School

  • Message from the Principal – 2-12-2019

    Dear Walnut Square School Families,

We have reached 100 days of school!  Mrs. Sanchez’s second grade class won the best attendance in January.  Congratulations to the students in Room 6.  Being in school every day means your child won’t miss out on learning.

Our school PTO has organized a fundraiser with a local restaurant, Five Guys in Haverhill located at 86 Plaistow Rd.  On Wednesday, February 13th from 4-9pm, 15% of your dining bill will be donated to the school’s PTO.

The bucket filling program is a schoolwide positive behavior approach to learning that we follow at Walnut Square School.  Our goal is to reduce negative behavior while strengthening responsible behavior, and increase academically engaged time.  This month we celebrate the character trait of compassion for others.  We will hold an assembly at the end of the month to award students who help others and practice kindness.

Friday, February 15, 2019 is the last day before school vacation and students may wear pajamas to school and bring a favorite “bedtime” story to read.  A $1.00 donation is suggested and monies raised will support the Walnut Square School PTO.

    Respectfully yours,

    Mrs. Gray

    Principal

Curriculum note:  reading and writing development are intertwined in early learning.  Writing supports a child’s ability to read.  Help us develop strong writers!  Have your children write notes or letters to friends and relatives.  Let your child write the shopping list before a trip to the store.  Encourage journal keeping for special times such as a family trip or a holiday.  Make it fun to encourage a love of writing from an early age.
